PS: Keep in mind that Ubuntu's user-friendly policy has got pros and
cons. By this policy everything contained by a package that could get
autostarted will get autostarted. For example, if a user installs the
package smartmontools to get the command smartctl, installing the
package automatically starts smartd, which could be counter-productive
for some usage, e.g. if you want to find out how often GVFS starts
external green drives each hour ;), it's counter-productive if smard
wakes up green drives, too. Some users just want to run smartctl
manually and not use the daemon at all. You might have installed
hundreds of packages autostarting programs you don't need at all.
