xrandr is a cmd that will give the NAME of the displays. I have seen that the name might change from VGA1 to VGA-1 when upgrading and that gives a problem, when I put a line in .profile that will arrange the display (or some other old setting is read).

arandr is the GUI app, and lets you save a configuration, that can be used.
