.

thank you for your answer ...

I have been working with linux at the library for over a decade
but never have been installing any thing successfully
just trying out several linux like slax ... knoppix
mint ... Q4OS > but none of them
seem to work

it seeming to me that this linux os being not for the general public
but more for IT engineers ... am I right on this ?

so what you are writing is faintly comprehensible to me
but not enough for doing this easily

can you give me any link for a description for beginners ?
on this subject of verifying downloads ?

and ... after having burned this xubunto 18.04 dvd
I had it checked for proper burning >

and it showed 3x reading errors then !
the first time ever I have had problems with this kde burn app
from such a pc with ubuntu on it

now ... this means > that the burn app is only checking against the iso
I have supplied to this app ... not that this iso is a valid download ?
is this the correct assumption ?

then at last >
where can I find an answer to this mobile broad band setting up ?

regards ... fritz

Hi,

I can't help with the "mobile broadband set up", but before you burn a
new DVD consider to not only check the image against the checksum, but
also ensure that it fits to the signing. A long time ago I wrote a
script, to download Ubuntu flavours from this period. This script still
works for xubuntu 18.04. Actually this script does use the short finger
prints of the keys, while this is even mentioned by the Ubuntu pages,
an Ubuntu flavour developers who likes this script, mentioned that the
full fingerprint should be used, instead of the shortened pattern. It's
anyway better to check the ISO with this script or manually, even with
shortened finger prints, than to check without making use of the
signing at all.

Maybe you want to make the attached script executable by running

cd /path/to_the_directories_script
chmod a+x luamd64_1610.sh

and then to run it by

./luamd64_1610.sh xubuntu 18.04

and to follow the advices.

Regards,
Ralf
