Hi Fritz,

thank you for your answer ...

I have been working with linux at the library for over a decade
but never have been installing any thing successfully
just trying out several linux like slax ... knoppix
mint ... Q4OS > but none of them
seem to work

What does "none of them seem to work" mean? The installations failed?

well ... slax has a fine desktop ... esthetically very pleasing
but there is no mobile broadband internet connection possible

knoppix is a fine live os ... but not easy to install
and the mbb connection ... will not function with the sms service

the mint

the Q4OS

it seeming to me that this linux os being not for the general public
but more for IT engineers ... am I right on this ?

No :)

well it is certainly not as easy as any windows or mac to install !
and I would love to have the chance to study every thing there is
but I have already a thousand jobs now

so any more will take away from what I have to do
not helping with this doing > meaning a easy to install linux

so what you are writing is faintly comprehensible to me
but not enough for doing this easily

can you give me any link for a description for beginners ?
on this subject of verifying downloads ?

Take a look here:

https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-how-to-verify-ubuntu

then at last >
where can I find an answer to this mobile broad band setting up ?

This should work with modem-manager-gui.

I do not see any modem-manager-gui
on the desktop of ....

but this is not a modem !
but a mass production internet stick ZTE MF 190
with a modem and its own >>> virtual cd rom in it

this having to be recognized by the os
and installed for all services to be usable

so xubuntu does not do this
not even in part as knoppix etc
so we are having not only some os
being light years away from windows / mac

but to being not even aware of this inability
there while bragging around how much better they are !
so xubuntu being for some one having a lot of spare time
ergo ... some product for playing around with
but not to be used as is

for the general public
