I may have another lead on the delay issue.
I started seeing the delay again today. As before, I installed spacefm,
set it as my default file manager, and the delay went away. Switched
back to Nemo and the delay came back. Then I thought I'd start
unmounting the filesystems that were running on the server machine. I
had 6 filesystems mounted: 3 nfs, 3 CIFS mounts. Disconnecting these
filesystems didn't seem to do anything.
Although my boot/system disk is formatted ext4, I also have a 2-disk zfs
mirror pool. When I unmounted the pool, the delay was still there, but
after I rebooted, the delay was gone. I'm going to run this way for a
few days and see if the problem returns.
