Firefox is installed with all versions of xubuntu. Updates will arrive automatically. They are usually a few days after a general release because (see below). If you somehow deleted FireFox by mistake, open a terminal and do the first option described above. Make sure to also install any additional software required. You want to use the version of firefox maintained by ubuntu/xubuntu, as that version has some additions and fixes specific to ubuntu/xubuntu. Synaptic is a GUI to apt. I find it useful for finding new software or for installing recommends connected to an app. I would avoid installing firefox directly from a download.
