What is the simplest way to add a new item to a panel from the command line?

I see that ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-panel.xml
holds information about what's on the panel, but I'm not exactly sure
how I would add something like the pulseaudio plugin for example.

I found xfconf-query and it appears to be able to do things with
xfce4-panel, just again not sure how I could add something like the
pulseaudio plugin via it.

Thanks,

Charles, et. al.

No script needed. That's the hard way.

I go to the menu, the whisker menu in my case - I use XFCE.

 * Hover over the icon for an application on the menu
 * Left-click, holding the button down
 * Drag to the panel
 * Watch for a vertical, red line to appear
 * Release the mouse button.

It's tricky but works.

To re-position:

 * Right-click over the icon on the panel
 * Select MOVE
 * Drag and drop.

Note that panels can be backed up / saved for the future. I've found this to be useful to have after a re-install.

Good luck.
