Vexi Beta 2 Released ==================== The Vexi Platform: Beta 2 is now officially available.
Beta 1 was to indicate to users that the Vexi project was alive, Beta 2 is a statement of intent - a vastly improved user experience. This release also includes a preview of the Launcher, which can be used to launch Beta 2 for those with Java-enabled browsers: http://download.vexi.org/launch/applet.html This release includes the following: * Vexi Core 0.91 * Vexi Widgets 0.70 * Vexi Launcher Preview Vexi Core 0.91 ============== Download: http://download.vexi.org/core-0.91.jar This release brings a plethora of bug fixes and improvements to provide a platform suitable for the development of applications. Vexi Core 0.91 is faster, smoother, more complete, and less buggy than 0.90, although there are a few subtle but serious bugs that will be fixed by a quick- fire version bump to 0.91.1 for which we did not want to delay Beta 2 any further. The core is still only in Java form, with native binaries scheduled for the next release of the Vexi Platform. Taking this into account, plus a known set of further optimizations to be made, Vexi is now showing the speed and responsivess that once made XWT popular. Improvements in this release: * Better, faster reflow with numerous bug fixes * API updates (suface, width, height trapping) and bug fixes * Text now renders nicely * Better DirtyList.dirty implementation * Usage of Rects over custom arrays * Many, many bug fixes and improvements Vexi Widgets 0.70 ================= Download: http://download.vexi.org/widgets-0.70.vexi The widgets have seen a lot of polish and improvement, with some major under-the-hood updates to create a more robust, reusable infrastructure. Improvements in this release: * New: Menu widgets - menu, menuitem, submenu * Improved: Text support - much improved textfields * Improved: Option widgets and List widgets work much better * Improved: Popupable widget support * Many more bugs fixes and improvements than can be mentioned Vexi Launcher Preview ===================== The Vexi Launcher preview uses a Java-based applet to shoehorn the core onto end-user computers. It is a test of the techniques that will allow us to implement ActiveX and Mozilla XPI launchers that will make Vexi runnable on the vast majority of computers and platforms out there. The Next Release ================ We have documented many bugs / improvements to be fixed / implemented before a stable Vexi release. One of the main problems, aside from the Beta nature of Vexi, is the lack of documentation which was the one big component we could not carry over from the Ibex fork due to copyright. A major focus of the next release will be rectifying this shortcoming. The next Vexi Platform release will feature: * Native binaries * Fully feature launcher * All medium-serious core bugs fixed * More widgets * All medium-serious widget bugs fixed * More demos * Thorough documentation * An exciting future Regards, - Charlie Charles Goodwin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> The Vexi Project ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by The 2004 JavaOne(SM) Conference Learn from the experts at JavaOne(SM), Sun's Worldwide Java Developer Conference, June 28 - July 1 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA REGISTER AND SAVE! http://java.sun.com/javaone/sf Priority Code NWMGYKND _______________________________________________ xul-announce mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/xul-announce
