Hello,

Dirk writes in that a first prototype for Wiser a
new project that lets you build Swing or Web/HTML
clients using XML is now live.

  Dirk writes:

  Wi.Ser is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework,
which enables applications to run as Swing-
monolithic-, Swing-client/server- and Web-application
without any change.

Furthermore it includes a mixed deployment mode,
which supports one server serving Swing-clients and
Web-clients at the same time. The framework uses XML
to define an application's GUI and provides a common
widget based programming interface for Web and Swing
GUIs, which prevents the developer from struggling
with HTML and HTTP or with the internals of Swing.
Even complex widgets like treeviews, contextmenues,
tabbedpanes, etc are available in all client channels.

The project includes a WYSIWYG GUI-builder which is
completely build on the Wi.Ser framework technology.

 This are the main advantages:

- faster and easier development of rich Web and Swing
clients using XML and/or a common API
- compared to current standard tools - effort savings
of 50+% for complex GUIs seem to be realistic
- no HTML knowledge necessary for developing even
complex Web GUIs
- developing Swing client/server applications without
taking care of the split between client and server
- one simple XML definition and api for Swing- and
Web-appications
- complete separation of GUI building code from
application code
