   As far as the ATI driver is concerned the mode validation seems to
be behaving
   in a quirky way. In fact this new driver includes replacement code
for a whole
   bunch of mode validation functionality in Xorg in similarly named
files like: xf86Crtc.c,
   xf86Modes.c etc.

   From the logs the driver is able to detect the graphics card and
detect all the modelines.
   However it still falls back to using 1024x768. Not having the
hardware in question it is
   quite impossible for me to debug this further.
