Mmh. Could you please verify, whether or not the following potential workaround is able to improve the situation?? : # mv -i /dev/fb /dev/fb_prev # ln -s /dev/console /dev/fb ?? Maybe (I said _may_ be) the attempt by the userland Xorg ati_drv.so module(s) to communicate with the m64 /dev/fb console drivers causes things to hang.
