Moinak, It would be detrimental to keep building off of Xorg 6.9. At this time, some effort is underway to utilize the new hardware drivers under Xorg 7.1+ and hopefully merge Xsun under the Xorg umbrella (one ring to bind them all - meaning we can use Xorg device drivers to support modern cards for SPARC hardware). Legacy card support is being done by Martin (look over in the PowerPC discussions).
I've built the full Xorg on the SPARC/x86 platforms through the CVS and git systems with Alan's help. Mesa 6.5.1+ usually is stable if built correctly. FreeType is something to keep your eyes on - but builds well. Nvidia drivers work well most of the time (mostly OpenSolaris build issues). I'm awaiting build 50 for the DRI support. Xorg 7.2 is the other main thing. Most recent testing is with Nvidia 6200/7800 & Intel X3000. It may benefit the Belenix project to await such efforts as an official release of Nevada Build 50 and Xorg 7.2 (or recent snapshot of Xorg as last resort). I've worked on the fancy compositing features a few months ago under MetaCity for GNOME 2.14.3. Mostly, Nvidia is the best on Solaris for such work. Most of us are compiling Xorg with Sun Studio. Did the Nexenta team run into the same compile issues in their autobuilder using gcc?? ~ Ken Mays, EarthLink, Inc. This message posted from opensolaris.org
