I tried the latest NVidia drivers a month or two back - they didn't work, but I got the system working without them - sort of.
I used a util in Solaris which let me switch between X.org and Xsun and configure etc. Once I switched to Xsun the display worked and so did the mouse scroll wheel. I eventually got X.org working by selecting my hardware settings from the wizard. VESA compatible card seemed to be the only option that worked (what Xsun selected by default). The mouse scrollwheel still doesn't work in X.org. A bigger problem was Gnome and JDS. CDE worked fine. In JDS everthing looks fine for a few minutes (time varies) and then suddenly the mouse a keyboard cease to function and I have to reset. The only hack I got to make JDS sort of functional was to run a script which would restart the process "metacity" every 2 minutes just in case it had hung. Made the screen flicker each time it ran but would restore the mouse/keyboard if the system had frozen. I still don't know why X.org chose such terrible defaults for my system. The screen res and refresh rates were *way* beyond what my monitor can cope with. I hope it hasn't done any damage to my mintor. This message posted from opensolaris.org
