Not really - I don't think there's anyone actively maintaining the Xorg
vesa driver, so it's pretty much a matter of a volunteer wanting to work
on it. If the patch in the bug report works for you, I can commit it to the
tree, but otherwise, I don't know enough about it to say if it's a good idea
or not, or to suggest a better fix. (I believe Sun is a full VESA member and
has access to all the specs documents, but I'd have to ask around to find
them.)
