Hi. Ever since I have enabled advanced visual effects on my laptop it hangs as soon as I boot. I have given a detailed account of the problem here:

With the gdm disabled I can work with console but I cannot uninstall or disable compiz in disabled gdm state. The problem has surfaced since I enabled compiz. So can i revert to the default setting using console. If not, I propose a small start-up script that will disable compiz as soon as the gdm starts. Please see if you can help.
