For the Nvidia 177.80 driver, the performance meter shows it at level 2
throughout the entire glxgears session - even when the FPS performance drops
off.

I took a Quadro FX 55xx card and simply swapped it out and rebooted using
the same Nvidia driver setup with OS2008.11(final) and it was stable in
FPS performance (i.e. 14.1K FPS (default window) & 1.4K FPS (maximized window)
beyond a 5 minute glxgears session. If you noticed, the GTX 260 gave 5.5K FPS
with a maximized window which showed a 3.9x performance increase in this
situation.

I'll examine this more today.
