Define older.  The NV1x/2x GPUs (up to seven years old) are supported by
the legacy 96xx driver.  The new G8x GPUs are supported by the current 
driver.

Ignoring the miniroot space issue and the X server is already running in 
graphical
install mode, the big issue would be from where we extract the nvidia 
driver and
which driver to extract.

We are constantly upgrading the nv driver used in the miniroot to cover 
new devices
without (hopefully) abandoning old devices.  Which new board did the nv 
driver not
recognize?
