Ratcheting could explain different results between ScGeom and Dem3Dof in PBC. In fact, if one tries the PBC with ScGeom and bool avoidGranularRatcheting=false (it would be true by default) would see that, when the packing reaches a relatively compacted state, kinetic energy would badly increase and unbalanced force as well, due to very high particles rotation. The same situation occurs once using other contact laws in PBC (e.g. HM no-slip) and, again, only if ratcheting is NOT avoided.
