No. Changing the stiffness (your first case) can be done in different ways. 1/if you multiply stiffness by F, multiply gravity by F at the same time, keeping the equilibrium unchanged, then decrease gravity progressively (e.g. a few percent every N iterations) 2/ increase stiffness more progressively, which is nearly equivalent "supposing that 1mm=1m" is helpless.
