fake instance objects in test_compute have stale changes

Bug description:
_create_instance_obj() sets a bunch of attrs on the new object, but
doesn't call .obj_reset_changes(), so they are essentially not treated
as committed.
Not currently a problem in tests... but might be in the future, as
this is technically wrong.
