It sounds as tho that is part or all of your problem. Yahoo needs access to these ports in order to connect, and if its just hanging there and not doing anything, then it's either not seeing the port it needs or it's been banned. My suggestion is to call your internet provider and ask them what you need to set to get Messenger and Java for that matter to work. I mean I know at work I am NOT able to get messenger or Java, but that's because our system admin has disabled anything to do with chat, and blocked all those ports.
