My next comment to you would be NOT to delete the yupdater file, keep
it there and just change the name.  Once you start deleting files from
it, it causes errors.

You said you had done a total uninstall and reinstall, and sometimes
part of the problem is that you have installed a new version and
deleted it, then reinstall an older version and now there's conflicts.

You could try uninstalling completely, and reinstalling the new
version.  Make sure the version is the NEW one from yahoo, and not
from some other site.  Also if you have updated windows recently or
your firewall software, this could also have problems. 

If none of the above works, and you have windows XP, I would do a
system restore.  Which mean to restore your system back to a date
BEFORE you were having problems.  This will not delete any of your
work, or things you've saved on your computer, but only change the
system set up.
