Well keep in mind there are many different area's of yahoo that show a
person being online.

First, people have the option when making a profile to "HIDE" their
online status. If they click this button, then when someone tries to
view their profile it will show them as offline.

However, if they have checked that they want to be put in the member
directory, OR if you have that person on your list you can go into
your email account and look at addresses, and it will also sometimes
show there if they are online.

There is no method to it, and the sad part about it is that there is
no definate answer if someone is online or not. Just because one
place shows them online, they could have gotted logged of and decided
not to come back, but yahoo doesn't know they are logged off, so it
will show them as online, or even show them in a room without ears,
when the person really isn't online at all.
