I'm running Spyware Doctor version 4 from PC Tools Software. I'm also running McAfee Security Center version 7.1. I think I still have Spyware Doctor running full time, but I did have to disable the feature where it would keep you from going to suspected spyware sites. I wouldn't let me go near Yahoo or Sportlines websites. If I have to give up Yahoo and Sportsline I may as well toss the computer in the trash. I think I did also update my McAfee software about the same time all of the problems happened. The McAfee software didn't seem to be causing a problem before but I wonder if the update may have caused a problem. I think i have two firewalls operating on the computer, one through Windows XP and one through McAfee. I never have been two sure how that works. It seems the older version of McAfee used to always ask for my confirmation when a program wanted to install. I don't think I have seen that for a while. I wonder if the new version is blocking some things without my input. Sounds like you are getting a much better deal on your protection than I am. I hate to change things now as I just recently paid for the last updates from McAfee, but I am protecting two computers now and I'm thinking about buying a third.
Also I am using Internet Explore version 7 and Window XP the home edition version 5.1.2600. I going to try to look into setting on my firewall/firewalls?? ----- Original Message ---- From: LNVTM1 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, January 13, 2007 9:23:28 AM Subject: [Y!M] Re: Problems with voice Which anti-spyware did you buy? Are you now running it full-time in the background? If so, try disabling it to see if that allows you to use voice feature. It sounds more like a firewall issue though where your firewall is blocking the port for the voice feature. For anyone else reading this, to prevent getting spyware/malware, you should keep your Windows Operating System up to date using Microsoft Update website at http://update. microsoft. com/microsoftupd ate/v6/default. aspx?ln=en- us (or have your computer set to automatically do the updates) and you should also be running a good firewall (I use Sunbelt-Kerio' s personal firewall for $14.95) and also running a good anti-virus (I use AVG's FREE anti-virus) and anti-spyware (I use Windows Defender, FREE from Microsoft). I have used many other firewalls, anti-viruses and anti-spyware over the years but these three work well together running full-time in the background on my computers (WindowsXP Home & Pro versions). Some of the "suites" like those from McAfee and Norton are big-time resource hogs and really slow down most computers. Some of the other anti-spywares, anti-viruses and firewalls also suffer from being resource hogs. Always check out a product before using or buying it since there are many FAKE products that are bigger spyware bugs than what you are trying to get rid of. Problems with voice Posted by: "Patrick" [EMAIL PROTECTED] com p_doell Date: Fri Jan 12, 2007 7:59 am ((PST)) Hi, I have been having a lot of problems with the voice feature on messenger and I'm hoping maybe someone has delt with something simular. My wife uses the voice feature to chat with her over-seas relatives. We had been using the feature on and off for over a year without much trouble till recently. Just before the holidays I ended up picking up a really nasty spyware program while on myspace. To get rid of the spyware program I ended up purchasing anti-spyware software. I think the spyware software maybe causing my problems with messenger. We can usually chat, and use the webcam just fine but now we always have problems with the voice feature. This morning it worked long enough for me to hear someone say hello, but we couldn't get it going from that point on. My wifes overseas relatives have been able to use voice when speaking with other relative in the US so I am pretty sure the problem is on my end. My computer is still pretty new (about 2 years) and has been used for this before, and I have a high speed cable connection so I really don't think performance is the issue. Could really use some advice at this point. I'm considering wiring in my laptop this weekend to see whether or not I can eliminate the computer as the problem. I have a wireless router but it only gets about half the connection speed on wireless compared to what the PC will get directly tied to the router. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Don't pick lemons.
