Remember to use a registry cleaner after uninstalling to remove old traces
of your old YM. I use WinASO Registry Optimizer. It's free for the trial
version. The downside of the trial version is that it only cleans 10 items
per run but you can run it back to back until you have cleaned out your
registry. I run it weekly on my computer. There are other free registry
cleaners that others may recommend.

Then download a FULL ysmsgr.exe (around 10MB) instead of the small installer
application (440KB) that then downloads the rest. There's more problems
associated with the small installer application. You can get the FULL
download at http://www.filehippo.com/download_yahoo_messenger/ and at other
reputable sites. I personally still use the latest version of 7.5 since I
have been seeing too many issues with people who upgraded to 8.0+

Hi Linda,

tks for ur reply it's been really frustrating with the chat rooms of late I
have uninstalled it and will reinstall it see if that helps

I have been having problems getting into the chat rooms too. I did
finally get in when I used Lenny's suggestion about getting into a
room with a few people in it first. I was then able to get into the
room I wanted. I have used Y-Tunnel in the past when I chat, but I
haven't been able to get it to work. It opens up, but as soon as
Messenger opens, it shuts it down. That was the only thing that kept

the bots away, so it is almost impossible to chat now.
