No applause, just money! ;-)

LOL. Glad I could help. I hope others read and learn from your adventure.
I've written about changing the yupdater.exe so many times over the years
but people still like to play guinea pig for new YM versions. I'm happy to
stick with my 7.5 which works great 99% of the time.

I am all for Beta testing and I volunteer to Beta test many programs. I
currently am Beta testing 6-7 different programs and I mean some BIG ones
out there but it's not for everyone. You should know your computer inside
and out and be able to fix things that go wrong or you should not Beta test.
You should also have a back up process in effect so that if your computer
gets trashed, you can restore all your lost information. One of my backup
programs is Mozy which I "advertise" about all the time in my sig. It's
free and will automatically do an online back up of up to 2 Gigs (for FREE)
of info that you choose. It's only $4.95 a month for unlimited back up
storage space. There's also a little referral program where you get
additional storage when you refer people to Mozy so I'm up to over 3 gigs of
free storage now. I back up all of "My Documents" and "My photos" each
night. One day, I'm going to upgrade to the unlimited backup. I actually
Beta tested Mozy from when it first came out a few years ago. Before that,
I was using DVD's to do weekly back ups. I still ghost my entire hard drive
on a weekly basis just in case of a major crash but for the unlikely event
of accidentally deleting a file or your computer gets stolen or destroyed,
Mozy works perfect for restoring your personal files. If your hard drive
crashes and you buy a new hard drive for your computer, you would need more
than Mozy.

I'm not sure if Yahoo Messenger has a legitimate Beta testing process. I
know they come out with Beta versions but people aren't fully informed of
what Beta testing involves and I'm not sure if Yahoo communicates with their
Beta testers in a manner that would work out all of the bugs prior to
publicly releasing the version. In fact, I've seen the Beta versions
offered publicly and most companies do NOT do things this way. In fact, for
most of the programs that I am currently Beta testing, I had to "apply" to
become a Beta tester and show that I am capable of properly testing the
software and reporting bugs and fixes.

I don't think Yahoo has the communication skills necessary to accomplish
this type of testing. LOL

Subject: [Y!M] RE: Yahoo Messenger, Windows Vista and Phone Out - H E L P !

YM PHONE OUT PROBLEM SOLVED!, but no thanks to the folks at Yahoo.
Lenny is my hero today. He led me to uninstall the latest version of YM and
then reinstall an older version, v8.0.0.508, and, now the "Phone Out"
service works perfectly again with my Vista system. I also renamed
yupdater.exe to stop further updates as Lenny suggested. Thanks, Lenny!
You are the best.
