Is there an error code associated with script error? Take a screen shot next time it happens (Ctrl-PrtScrn, then open Paint and paste the image and save it). What version of IE do you have? Click on the Help Menu, then About IE, and type out the full version number.
Maybe you should go back to YM version 7.5.0.819 which is what I still use and it's pretty stable on my relatively new computer. You can get it at http://www.filehippo.com/download_yahoo_messenger/ or at one of the many other program download sites. It sounds like your problems came when you upgraded to version 8 and then you tried the beta 9 which is not the thing to do when having problems. Beta programs almost always have glitches.
