Do you do your monthly Windows or Microsoft Updates? I was Googling your error message and found this old archived thread http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg02798.html about this same issue and the person had an older version of IE7 and when they updated to the latest version, it fixed the script error. That is why I asked what version of IE. The latest version of IE7, AFIK, is 7.0.5730.11. Check to see if you have that version or an earlier one. Nearly all of the Googled forum threads about this IE error were dated back in February and March which further makes me believe you have an older version of IE7.
Also check to see if you have the latest version of Java. A good tool to use to check and see if you have current version of vulnerable programs is to run the Secunia Software Inspector... "Secunia has updated the Secunia Software Inspector with new rules for detecting insecure software. Run the Secunia Software Inspector to make sure that your system is up-to-date: http://secunia.com/software_inspector/" Run the thorough search but just because SSI says your software is unsecure, it doesn't mean it's 100% accurate... it just means that newer version are available. For example, SSI says my YM version 7.5 is unsecure but that's simply not true since my computer is locked down pretty tight. I guess if I was running 7.5 on an unsecured computer, then things could get dicey. SSI will at least let you know if you have old versions of critical software like Java, Adobe, Flash, etc., so you can update them as needed. If you don't know how to update various software, let me know and I'll type out more detailed instructions but you can check Java by going here... http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp Click the Verify Installation button and it will let you know if you have the current version. Java is very important to keep updated and you should check for updates on a monthly basis since hackers are constantly trying to create hacks via Java. Take a screen shot next time it happens (Ctrl-PrtScrn, then open Paint and paste the image and save it). What version of IE do you have? Click on the Help Menu, then About IE, and type out the full version number. Maybe you should go back to YM version 7.5.0.819 which is what I still use and it's pretty stable on my relatively new computer. You can get it at http://www.filehippo.com/download_yahoo_messenger/ or at one of the many other program download sites. It sounds like your problems came when you upgraded to version 8 and then you tried the beta 9 which is not the thing to do when having problems. Beta programs almost always have glitches.
