I'm kind of confused here. When you say the archives are showing but not the actual files but then refer to saving them to a Word document and having them back... what did you save and what is showing? I just want to be sure we're on the same page, so to speak.
The Archived chat's are .dat files and each IM session is saved in a folder under the name of the yahoo ID of the person you were IM'ing with but the files inside each folder start with a date format followed by your Yahoo ID, then .dat, for example, 20090505-lennyv.dat, but I would think you need to find the folders as there could be many files with the same name since each person you IM'ed with on a particular day would have the same file name but their files would have been in their respective folders. Probably if you did a search for .dat files and put the date range of when yours went missing, that would find the individual files but then you would have the problem of sorting them. I'm guessing Recuva has that type of search parameter. If you did a search for all files with your Yahoo ID as part of the name and ending with .dat, you should find them. You should probably go to the Recuva forums for more detailed help in finding the files with Recuva since I'm not more than a novice at using it. There are 3rd party programs that can also open Yahoo Archived .dat files, once you find them, so you could read the file and then file it into it's proper folder but that would be time consuming depending on how many IM sessions you are talking about. It would be best if you can find the folders with the IM sessions intact inside the folders. Even then, you'd have to go through your Contact list and search for each folder name based on the Yahoo ID of your contacts. The moral to this story for anyone else reading this... I have saved them to a Word document for the time being. None the less, I am happy to have them back. I will use the back up service, backup redundancy is always the best. I did not know about the online service and thank you for giving me the information. I did run the Recuva program, alas not knowing the file name or extension, I was not able to find it. Thank you again for all your help.... especially the advise on the backup website options and the Recuva program. I will bookmark your blog today and check it regularly. Take care, Jeri <http://mail.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/01.gif> <http://mail.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/14.gif>
