I do not use Yahoo Mail except for checking it about once a day and sending
all of the spam to the spam folder. If you switch back to Yahoo 7 Classic
Mail, it does have the IM interface. I use Gmail for my main emailing
accounts and use Outlook 2003 for handling my email so I rarely use the
Gmail webpage interface but I know that Gmail also has their IM service
built into their email page but I never get any spammers or any other IM's
from the Gmail service when I am occasionally on the website page checking
my spam folder for any possible good mail that might have gone in there.

Here's another answer I found in a search.

"You can NOT remove the new Chat feature from your Classic Mail----BUT----
you CAN disable it so it doesn't sign you in when you go to Mail. When the
page loads, look for the IM contact list on the left hand side. Click where
your status says "Available" and THEN select "Sign out of Chat". This will
disable the feature. Yes the small blue box will still be there under the
trash, but it's not activated. That's the best we can do at the moment."

Hope that helps. I haven't been able to verify this since I do not get the
Yahoo Chat/IM service when I sign into my Yahoo Mail account.

Hi.

How do I get Yahoo messenger off my mail page so I don't keep getting a
message from the same person to add me to the online contacts list every
time I open mail? I am not interested in belonging to Yahoo messenger and
deleted the program from my computer.

Thanks.
