To answer a couple of your questions...
I created a new mail box and associated it with a new messenger ID.
Not an alias...

As to deleting status messages from the registry..

Click Start > Run... type regedit and press enter. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > 
Software > Yahoo > pager > profiles > *select your username* then click Custom 
Msgs, in this folder you will see keys labeled as so.. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5..for 
however many status messages there is.......
