1. This is completely valid - we don't need DOM stuff and it's much simpler.
2. When I first started working on the POC, I was considering this approach.
It's certainly doable this way but it's more convenient to just walk the
hierarchy which was already parsed. I believe this makes the code more compact
and readable.
