Sure Commanda
Thanks for extending to us this important communique. I actually learnt about this revolutionary event yesterday night when the secretary of of my ANC branch in sunnyside received an SMS with regards to the same. We yesterday attended a council public hearing on street renaming process in Tshwane metro,an event that marred by unwarranted scenes that painted an ugly picture of racism that still persist and a pure deliberate effort by the minority to retain some legacy and entrenchment at the majority's expense. It was in the same event that my branch of YCL in Tshwane central submitted that Orion street and Schoeman Street, both of which embrace into the eastern conner the USA Embassy and are therefor its physical address; that they be named Ché Guevara and Fidel Castro respectively. Comrades could just have to imagine the embarrassment and political humiliation that the US will suffer as a result of such a change should it be effected! I encourage comrades from the MKMVA to make participate in this process of street name submissions. It is my view that when effecting such changes we should be mindful of comrades who devoted their lives serving the people in closer proximity to the places where streets are being considered. It is people like the Mamelodi 10 and Solomon Mahlangu who should be prioritised in cities like Tshwane, once such revolutionary names have been populated we then could fit others. I do not want to be seen as being Petty and regional but I think think we need to get confidence of localities by using name from their neighbour wood. The name of Father Smangaliso Mkhatswa; who is known to us those who hail from Sohanguve is one other name. His history is never told and when an attempt is made to tell the history, nothing but a scanty reflection is made. Let us celebrate and honour our fallen Heroes and heroines while identifying with our communities.
