Subject: What do we make of JZ's Address to NY University

Cdes

I may run a risk of committing an error of a fact, either because I may
have misheard the president or rather did not understand him in
entirety.A matter relating to a direction taken by the ANC as observed
by the outside world was raised, that the ANC was seen as leaning
towards the left with both the SACP and COSATU having greater influence
on policy direction of the ANC.

In response the President said that the two alliance partners were not
and will not influence the policies of the ANC, to do not vote on such
matters, they are just observers. What do we make out of this statement
comrades? it is a very loaded statements, I say this because under TM's
regime the main complaint from the alliance partners was that of being
left out of decision making process and lack of consultation.

I know that the relations have been improved in the alliance post
polokwane, but am very disturbed if consultation and other meetings of
the alliance will yield no concrete results for other partners. What
would be the value of consultation if recommendations are not being
taken? I further do understand that the ANC has a choice to accept or
reject the recommendation of other alliance partners, but is more
problematic if such remains a casting stone that condemns them to
becoming weaker arms in an alliance.

Educate me comrades...

Tshego George
