*MAQABANE, we engage on the following little opinion:*

Looking at the minister of the police Wednesday was heartening to see him
painfully struggling to explain to the parliament portfolio committee his
worst nightmares as a new captain at the height of the stinking rotten
ministry that is charged with the responsibilities of protecting the
citizens. I believe that the ministry is rotten precisely because those who
are suppose to be running it are killing us with their smelly omen of rot in
relation to their association with the elite criminals, those I have
classified as the illegitimate petite bourgeoisie. These are the little
capitalists who on a daily basis attempt to match the standards of their
masters by maneuvering many tricks with the state and the society, by using
the lumpen proletarians in order to drive their malicious criminal acts as
street corner tsotsies with a palm gun or even an AK-47.

While I clearly understand that no police is supposed to be dogging and
diving at floods of bullets from criminals while they posses legitimate
bullets that are supposed to protect citizens, but it is equally not helpful
to just fight fire with fire if you do not harshly tackle the source of the
fire. It is obvious and crystal clear that most of the car thieves, bank
robbers, home burglars and drug distributors are working for bigger bosses
who are at very high levels of our society, some of them enjoying coffees
with the police chiefs. The state violence will only harden the small
criminals who are hassling in the streets for their masters and the police
may not win the war.

*HOW ABOUT A FEW SHORT TERM REFORM PROPOSALS?*
The new minister must just bully the cabinet and demand the highest budget
for crime fighting and use that budget to firstly house the police in one
safety residential compounds, increase the salaries of the police to the
level of teachers even at constable level, reenergize and boost the crime
intelligence operations, dedicate a directorate in the police for community
police forum, get more young people to volunteer as police reservists and
engage in vigorous road shows on anti-crime educational campaigns in the
communities. This will boost the confidence and the moral of the police
and even encourage them to convict even the stinking reach crime captains,
but for as long as the status quo remains, how would you expect constable
earning a paltry R5000.00, staying at Ramaphosa shacks and using a taxi to
work to arrest a multimillionaire criminal staying at a wealthy suburb?

Let us let our society to debate this. Inspired by JZ, that we have to
ignite debates in the society, till we all with our collective wisdom reach
certain solutions that can be good for the whole nation and make SA and the
world a habitable place by all humans.
