The YCLSA has on numerous occasions expressed its deep concerns about the abuse of the SABC News division by Dr Snuki Zikalala and his 1996 class project bosses to fight internal political battles in the movement, and our concerns around the abuse of the SABC News to promote the newly formed party by ANC dissidents, including the non-coverage of critical issues affecting the working class and the poor. Unfortunately these concerns have never been seriously addressed given the imbedded factionalism which reigns supreme at the corridors of the public broadcaster. In a unequal and class society like South Africa, the media establishment including the SABC will use the resources at its disposal to advance and promote the ideas of the ruling elite in order to suppress the ideas of the oppressed class which is the working class and the poor. The YCLSA urges the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer Mampone as the commander-in-chief of the SABC News to be directly involved and take full responsibility of the SABC News Division with a view of eliminating any political biasness and manipulation of news coverage by Dr Zikalala in favour of his political henchman and women. This will go a long in ensuring that the coverage of the elections is impartial, fair and balanced.
