Comrades,
The Times of Tuesday February 17, 2009 In this article Ms Taljaard reduces decisions of ANC parliamentarians as merely rubber stamping ANC view point. Deliberations that Ms Taljaard’s judgement is based upon are those relating to relieving advocate Vusi Pikoli of his post as the head of the National Prosecuting Authority and the dissolution of scorpions. The ANC’s views as the party, on both matters are well canvassed and argued in close quarters as well as within the alliance and in public. It is the view of the ANC that Vusi Pikoli’s decision to charge Zuma, was not an independent, professional and objective decision based on judgement of facts before him, but a joinder to the subjective chorus of self-rightous “anti-corruption” song that is to South African politics today what “destroy communist” campaign of apartheid era or cold war era was. The facts before Pikoli were that there are certain high ranking persons in the ANC government led by Mbeki who might have flaunted procurement processes in the arms deal. Pikoli only selected personalities but not the alleged wrongdoing, impropriety or breach of processes. That was the first mishandling of the purported arms deal related charge of Zuma by Pikoli. The ANC did not politicise Zuma’s corruption charge or Pikoli’s lack of independence in exercising his authority to charge Zuma, on the contrary the over utilised chorus of by Pikoli and his handlers did. IF Pikoli’s actions had been consistent from the beginning with his claims to be the protector of the rule of law, the Constitution and democracy he should have pursued the alleged conduct first and then those who are found to be connected to or associated with its commitment. At all this times whether by coincidence or otherwise Pikoli and DA decisions and judgement have common thread that runs through them, namely the strategy to politically annihilate ANC through unjustifiably targeting certain of its leadership. With regard to dissolving Scorpions, due processes were followed. The fact that those processes did not yield DA and its alliances the results they had hoped for does not negate the fact that democratic framework was followed and its results respected by all political parties albeit DA is indirectly reneging from the said decisions or results. Further one wanders why is it that Taljaard or her party have not to date have failed to criticised even the most patent inconsistencies and lacunas of NPA such as tracking its feet in charging or publicly announcing all those suspected of having been involved in the arms deal one way or the other. It is not ludicrous or unreasonable for the ANC and its members to suspect that Pikoli, NPA and DA are in cahoots and are collaborators with common purpose to annihilate ANC politically.
