All government systems sustain themselves primarily on the basis of on highly contested ideological construct, and such is the South African state. Failure to realise this simple fact and turning a blind eye suggests to me, not only political malice but sheer naivety of the political terrain. So what is the Reverend doing in politics, let alone in parliament? As it is, the concrete conditions in the Republic of South Africa still do not favour the poor and the working people as a whole, majority of whom also belong to his church in my home township of Vosloorus. The argument that socialism cannot redress South Africa’s deep seated economical problems is ill-fitted and at most very vague and not substantiated except a pathetic hollow expression of anti-communism. Rev. Meshoe would conveniently not mention that the People’s Republic of China, a communist led country, can actually even build a city the size of New York in just twelve months, even the Americans are now studying their method of development and Cuba leads the world with education and health and no one goes to sleep without food, that cannot even be said about the celebrated capitalist system. In fact, many churches and knowledgeable priests and reverends we met have actually expressed their preference for communist ethos and values as compared to the rapacious capitalist system. But like Pastor Helder once commented *“When i give food to the poor they call me a saint and when i ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.” *for that Reverend Meshoe we are glad to remain communist and no amount of insult from you and your ilk will obfuscate the superiority of communist over the evil dog eat dog system of capitalism. Therefore, your argument on ideological struggles skewed towards a collapsed capitalist mode of production as a model to rescue our fathers land does not hold any water.
