Fellow Members
Comrades in as much we are marching to the General Elections,it is imperative
to keep on sight all issues affecting young people around education.
Firstly; The buzz word has being around politicking in schools which has been
discouraged. The bottom line is that Youth Formations must take the
responsibility of spread the good news about the ANC in Institutions as our
believe is that young people are not neutral. We must defeat the false surveys
which suggest that young people are apathetic on all what is happening in South
Africa. The COSATU Affiliates organizing around institutions must rally around
and use their constitutional meetings to popularize the ANC Manifesto as their
meetings are covered in the Labour Relations.Institutions will never be immune
to societal issues as we are members of the society before we become
workers, managers, trade unionists etc.We support sound education provision in
South Africa and disruptions should at all be discouraged as per our ANC
January 8 Statement,YCLSA,ANCYL Campaign of returning back to school.
Secondly; There is robust debate on the availibility and/or distribution of
Condoms in schools, which should be interrogated. It is undisputable that the
rate of HIV/AIDS infection in South Africa is not on.We see many of our
brothers and sisters killed by the pandemic. The Department of Education
argument of distribution of condoms is understable but the bottom line is that
young people must be empowered to take responsibility of lives but accessing
the condoms even if is not within the schools. It has being a practice that in
Life Orientation, issues on sexuality education consideration should be premised
on the age of learners. We can't give a condom to a Grade 4 learner but emphasis
should be on learning about the disease, learn about misbehaviour that may lead
to infections. But for Grade 10's for example;we must deal with delaying sexual
activity, use of condoms and if some are sexually active, consider testing and
encourage positive lifestlyes.
Failure to take action will be a suicidal to the prime asset of our
country;Young People.COSAS,SASCO,YCL,ANCYL will always and should always serve
as key sites of information, condoms availibility and distributions as part of
our campaings to make Learners,Students take charge. We dare not fail in that!
Lastly; It is quite inspiring to have young Leaders are who are able to say "we
failed in the last period and we are actioning these plans to overcome that' as
said by the Basketball South Africa President,Cde Maleka Malesela on the
Basketball programme on SABC ONE.His words invoke a quality which we must
emulate of being accountable and take the blame if it is needed. This was about
the failures of the previous committee to reach high resolves in delivering
programmes for young people as expected. We salute CDE Maleka for that.Young
people wherewver we lead,we must be responsible.
'In Organisations, people ussually perform one of the three essential
roles;Producers,Managers or Leaders. Each role is vital to the success of an
organization.
For example;if there is no producer, great ideas and high resolves are not
carried out.The work simply doesn't get done.
Where there is no manager, there is role conflict and ambiguity, everyone
attempts to be a producer, working independantly, with few established systems or
procedures.
And if there is no Leader, there is lack of vision and direction.People begin to
loose sight of their mission.
Although each role is important to the organization,The role of a leader is
most important.Strategic Leadership is most vital"
We must take charge of All Societal issues and it is no longer necessary to
search for solutions.We must act!!
It is not yet Uhuru!!!
