Dear Cde Wonder,

I think the way you have put it is just the kind of response that I would have
hoped for, among others.

“The free development of each is the condition for the free development of all”
is the basic principle in my opinion. That comes from the Communist Manifesto.

Everything depends upon the determination of individuals to get their hands on
productive things (what I have called products), learn to use them and actually
use them. The learning and the using happen at the same time.

But also, these revolutionary products are of a social kind. The individual
producer is lost without others to work with, communicate with, and share with.

This also applies to the free software that you are writing about.

In my opinion it is necessary to start with simple, discreet things, or in
theoretical terms “abstract” parts of the whole, “concrete”
material-social-educational development that is possible for us at this time.

We cannot afford to leave all these products in a purely bourgeois-market state
of distribution. We have to make qualitative judgements and selections, and
active moves as individuals acting socially, so as to expropriate the
initiative and lead society towards what it can do for itself.

Part of Marx’s legacy (and particularly in “Capital”) is to say that there is
no such thing as “the economy” outside and separate from the society of people.
The rendering of people into helpless appendages of the market is what capital
does. We have to actively oppose that separation, and reclaim our humanity in
full, which means not only spiritually and intellectually, but also practically.

Just as there are many media in multi-media, so also there are many fronts in
the people’s struggle.

Long live the most advanced class, the working class!

Domza, VC

Subject: [YCLSA Discussion] Fw: Products for Revolutionaries

Comrade Dominc,

Thanks for sharing such information with us. I want to know what is the
intention to circulate such information.

I want to bring to your attention that there is an operating systems and
applications that are for free. This include the current most famous Ubuntu by
canonical (yes, the one from Mark Shuttleworth), openSUSE (I am using Version
11.0 on my Acer Laptop) and many other operating system. The come bundled with
office package (openOffice.org) and other tools that will compete in the market
but at no cost.

Countries such as Brazil (I mean civil society and government) and companies
like IBM are using this types of softwares and operating system. I would love
to see us moving towards open society. You may get contact details of mark
Shuttleworth to write a paper about the popularity and usage of this type of
alternative. By the way, if you know computer programming, you may tweak it to
your own liking and also, it is packaged with information on how to do things
for yourself and more information is available in the internet. It is 100%
virus free unlike Microsoft products.

I wish to engaged you further in this matter
