Cdes,

I have been wondering about the issue of stalwarts but am convinced that SASCO
has someone who has led the organisation stalwartly.

I speak of a comrade I have never had a personal engagement with but know that
he has attended most (if not all) conferences of SASCO including the inaugural
congress in 1991.

Cde Thami Ncongwane has led SASCO selflessly and gave space to the new blood to
lead. He led at branch, provincial and national level and am convinced that he
has attended all conferences of SASCO since 1991. Some of those he nurtured are
national political leaders, successful business people, high ranking
bureaucrats etc.

I wish SASCO can emulate this leader and follow his pattern of leadership. I
also wish SASCO can have a function or event to honour the selfless
contributions that Cde Thami Ncongwane has made to the Students' Movement in
particular and South African politics in general.

I do not have much of Cde Thami's background except that he was at some stage a
Provincial Secretary and a Deputy Secretary General of SASCO. He never
attempted to divide SASCO for selfish interests but always preached unity and
cadre development.

I think that the NEC of SASCO will take it upon themselves to dedicate a rally
to Cde Thami and compile the rich history of Cde Thami in order to encourage
those who join SASCO about his stalwart service. Some of us who led way after
him have already missed many congresses. His passion for SASCO cannot be left
unnoticed.

I hope that this will not be viewed as a personification of the revolution or a
perpetuation of personality cults. It is an honest idea that fits well with the
history of the students' movement.

Lets engage!!!!
