Comrade is entirely correct. Especially with all these job losses, safe heating and lighting and cooking will move beyond the reach of so many of us, in this era when the wrongs of apartheid are supposed to be righted. Look at the fires that destroy houses every winter because people are using paraffin and candles. Yet Eskom was prepared to provide cut-rate electricity for the aluminium smelter!
What has happened to the past years' profits? not only Eskom but also the fully-private sector - the mines, the big shops etc. We remember in 2004 Mbeki and business announced an economic turn-around but we didn't feel the benefits of that - food prices stayed up and wages stayed low. The executives don't share the rewards when things go their way, now they are asking us to share the pain when things go wrong. Eskom is buggered up now because the share of taxes coming from big companies has been reducing - leaving us to choose between education and electricity infrastructure in our budgets. We should not at all accept the argument that ordinary people have to pay to fix Eskom. Maybe its time for a new campaign of non-payment. We will then also have to be vigilant against the pre-paid meters which make you cut yourself off. People are more interested in petty issues such as the succession debate which should not even be discussed or made an agenda at this juncture! Cadres which have been in the forefront such as Gwede and company are turning a blind eye to this disaster which is about to hit us unaware. Where is our radical and outspoken youth league president julius malema on this issue? It is times like these when we remember cadres of the likes of Joe slove, Chris hani, Peter mokaba and the list is endless. Cadres who would not allow such daylight robbery of the poor in this country. Cadres, i know all this money is going to...this money is going to finance these fat cats' performance bonuses at the end of the year. Going on the words of the hero, che guevera who once said, "The guerrilla is supported by the peasant and worker masses of the region and of the whole territory in which it acts. Without these prerequisites, guerrilla warfare is not possible".
