It is matter of great concern that it is workers and the poor that are in the
recieving end of all of this. Eskom should have hiked the electrcity price for
businesses only because its large firms that consume alot of electricity in our
country.Big businesses can afford to pay for the electricity hike not the poor.

In the midst of the economic meltdown, where workers are retrenched, which
leads to poverty and for those that remain with jobs their salaries are not
increased while company executives get huge bonuses (including those of Eskom)
this hike is unacceptable. Petrol prices increases and the cost of living
incrases and then this bomshell by Eskom. It is just beyond understanding that
Eskom could crucify the poor in this regard.

The workers and the poor, led by the SACP and COSATU ought to lead the campaign
against this onsaulght against the poor who cannot even afford living under
such harsh conditions in our country.

Subject: [YCLSA Discussion] 34% ELECTRICITY PRICE HIKE...

Dear cadres,

I am deeply perturbed by the announcement made regarding the increase
of electricity by 34%. This is unacceptable and it should not be
allowed!

Cadres, we don't come from the same families and not all of us can
afford to pay at such high standards. We cannot allow these lumpens to
drain us of our hard earned cash. I for one will not sponsor fat cats
of Eskom and NERSA with my cash, for them to lead expensive lives.

Why is electricity going up?
If the price goes up, we will take drastic action against Eskom and
NERSA. That particular action will not involve courts as we cannot
afford lawyers but it will make Eskom's substations to go up in
flames. We were just recovering from their price increase not so long
ago but we cannot again let the next increase take effect.

I am deeply dissapointed that  our leaders in the struggle have failed
to raise such issues recently. People are more interested in petty
issues such as the succession debate which should not even be
discussed or made an agenda at this juncture!

Cadres which have been in the forefront such as Gwede and company are
turning a blind eye to this disaster which is about to hit us unaware.
Where is our radical and outspoken youth league president julius
malema on this issue?

It is times like these when we remember cadres of the likes of Joe
slove, Chris hani, Peter mokaba and the list is endless. Cadres who
would not allow such daylight robbery of the poor in this country.

Cadres, i know all this money is going to...this money is going to
finance these fat cats' performance bonuses at the end of the year.

Going on the words of the hero, che guevera who once said, "The
guerrilla is supported by the peasant and worker masses of the region
and of the whole territory in which it acts. Without these
prerequisites, guerrilla warfare is not possible". I now ask everyone
to join us in this fight and say "NO TO ELECTRICITY PRICE INCREASE BY
34% OR ANY OTHER PERCENT!".
