*YCLSA calls on government to ban SA Roadlink from our public roads* *08 July 2009*
The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] calls on the Ministry of Transport to ban with immediate effect SA Roadlink from operating on our public roads. It is regrettable that SA Roadlink has become human slaughter wheels machine as a result of its unroadworthy busses that ferry the working class and the poor across the country. This latest SA Roadlink bus accident which has claimed 12 lives raises the need for safe, accessible and affordable public transport for the poor. These bus and taxi accidents which are reported on a daily basis confirm our beliefs that capitalist oriented transportation interventions such as Gautrain are not the answer to these problems. Road fatalities and bus accidents are the biggest killer after the HIV/AIDS pandemic in our country. The most affected by these fatalities are the working class and the poor. This leaves a burden to the majority of the victims of these fatalities in the midst of grinding poverty and high cost of living amongst the poor. We call on the Ministry of Transport to thoroughly investigate the latest SA Roadlink bus accident with an intention of banning it from our public roads for recklessness and human slaughtering. We send our deepest and profound condolences to the families of the deceased and send our best wishes to the surviving victims.
