Comrades, this matter is long overdue. when i remember correctly, the same bus company was involved in a tussle with the MEC for transport in KZN last year. it is the same company again this year. we are still going to face the same problem if the government will take a lenient approach this time around. there are many fatalities and also injuries due to the state of our public transport. fortunately or unfortunately, i am a victim of our public transport system. it is painful to see young and old people loosing their lives because we have leaders caring less with what is happening in the roads and streets. i hope that though comrades like Jeremy, we will win this battle. in one of the controversial cartoon Shapiro depicted some years ago, was of coffins (in this case he was referring to taxis) waiting to take people to their destination. you would conclude that their destination is their graves. the SACP is a leader of a campaign of a public system that is affordable, comfortable, safe and benefiting ordinary members of our communities. it is still relevant that we mobilise all social partners and our communities to speak out against this state of service also in support of the party program. it is in this line of march that we will finally have a transport system that will benefit us all not only the 2010 international spectators. asishiyeni mqombotsi elawini, madvodza asebandla Wonder 072 3046 338

It is regrettable that SA Roadlink has become human slaughter wheels machine as a result of its unroadworthy busses that ferry the working class and the poor across the country. This latest SA Roadlink bus accident which has claimed 12 lives raises the need for safe, accessible and affordable public transport for the poor. These bus and taxi accidents which are reported on a daily basis confirm our beliefs that capitalist oriented transportation interventions such as Gautrain are not the answer to these problems. Road fatalities and bus accidents are the biggest killer after the HIV/AIDS pandemic in our country. The most affected by these fatalities are the working class and the poor. This leaves a burden to the majority of the victims of these fatalities in the midst of grinding poverty and high cost of living amongst the poor. We call on the Ministry of Transport to thoroughly investigate the latest SA Roadlink bus accident with an intention of banning it from our public roads for recklessness and human slaughtering. We send our deepest and profound condolences to the families of the deceased and send our best wishes to the surviving victims.
