Comrade

You correct one extreme of equating apartheid to socialism
with another that says we can only make progressive and
succesful economic changes after the demise of capitalism.
We need to understand that the NDR is a political discourse
that occurs within the midst of a capitalist economic
milieu but it does not mean that we cannot agitate for
socialist orientated changes.

Infact these can be critical to build confidence and set in
motion the fundamentals for a future proletarian led state.
We must in the now begin to assert the predominance of
socialist orientated policies. We can then debate the
charecter of nationalisation (which we should in my view
not necessarily equate with state ownership). Hence I was
amongst the first to correct the comrade who sought to
equate nationalism under apartheid with what we understand
the socialization of production undersocialism, which is
what communist underestand to be the goal of
nationalization. You can also say socialization is the
form.

In our case the ANCYL has not yet given detail of how they
see the Freedom Charter implemented as it relates to their
call for the nationalization of mines. Which is perhaps why
they are saying they are opening the debate for us to
engage. Ofcourse I am averse to the dangers you forsee of a
state led "revolution" rather than the working class taking
the lead, in that instance the result may be state
capitalism and economism as correctly warned by Domza. For
the first time in a long time a bold call such as this is
made by one of the progressive formations and we should not
squander the opportunity to strenghten the horizons for a
left orientated economic discourse by outrightly dismissing
it without even emerging better informed of how we need to
advance.
