Comrades, I want to appeal to cadres not to be drained by what transpired at Polokwane but engage issues that arose out of the Congress. Communist cadres are known to have nerves of steel - and not easily made to lose focus with regards to priorities of the movement. To answer you cde Godfrey, what happened it's unfortunate state of affairs. We said sometime ago that the Cronin-Malema saga will have a multiplier effect, unless the Alliance Secretariat deals with this sort of thing as a matter of urgency. But it seems like nothing was done, despite that comrades met with the ANCYL leadership to discuss the matter. There is nothing to show that the meeting was constructive with detailed plan to arrest this sort of thing or some form of corrective action mechanism. Be as it may, SACP delegates expressed themselves in a manner that is reflective of what occurred in both ANC and ANCYL conferences. No one is to be blamed except ourselves for failing to provide leadership and clarify rules of engagement. By ourselves, I mean the Alliance leadership and structures. When Malema-Cronin saga broke up, many of us took sides, others apportioned blame on Cronin and while others pointed Malema. But what remained irritating is that individuals kept on resorting to anarchy - sometimes even to call other comrades with derogatory names or marching on dangerous territories without reconciling themselves with the consequences thereof. We allowed certain individuals to think that they are bigger than our movement. They have become the centre of attraction much more to our dismay and dislike. When they cannot articulate their point of view, they become incessant irritants. We cannot continue like this. ANC President has been calling for cool heads for the Alliance to work - but all in vain. Because these individuals deliberately ignored the President and no one took them to task despite being part of the NEC. All they want is to bring a foreign culture into our movement and use it to supersede the political significance of the tradition of the Alliance. This must be dealt with. Any delay whatsoever will lead us to a crisis, leaving the Alliance in the intensive care unit. The ANC NWC must firmly deal with this growing tendency and urge NEC members to remember that they do not represent their own jackets but branches who elected them to office. If they cannot cope, they must do the honourable thing and resign. The respect for all components of the Tripartite Alliance is a non negotiable requirement guided by the aims and objectives of the ANC as the leader of the Alliance. I hope today's meeting will chart a way forward. Comradely, Morgan Phaahla Ekurhuleni
