Chief, you are suppose to tell us your view and standpoint and what inform that. You see YCLSA is a democratic organisation and rely on its members to guide in providing its position. The official position informed by our convictions that Capitalism is at play here is an outright rejection of the hikes. But further we are aware of the Referee and Player role Eskom played with NERSA. The law requires NERSA to do due diligence and apply economic regulation in arriving at a determination and not for Eskom to tell NERSA what is acceptable. President Zuma put it well when talking to policy department of Energy that what is required here is to take the Whistle out of the mouth of the Player (Eskom) such that the game can be fair. However, we are alive to the fact that the very same NERSA will request Eskom to formulate proposal instead of undertaking an independent study that will guide it to deal with these increase. This unlike other operation is flawed process in that Eskom board will take a bad business decision and then come back the following year to NERSA and said we have not speculate well on the price of coal or we entered into few contracts and we realise that our stockpiles are dwindling and need liquid injection to fund operations. Hence some of us we silently leave Capitals to play their game.
It is the very same stance we took on why you embark on Public hearing while already you know that the law requires an Economic Regulation approach. Its about the bottom line and the rest is for cosmetics purposes only. Cde Tshepo, its you and me who should assist the YCLSA to formulate its well reserached and informed position in the near future. It all start with us. Its about raising the consciousness ofthe working class such that issues like these could not be left to Capital Modalities or Reforms only. But should be at the core of path in our journey to a Developmental State. I hope, eventhough I'm not YCLSA spokesperson, I ave assisted in putting the perspective on the issue you posed. Cde Tom Mutshidza >>> Tshepo Nkwe <[email protected]> 2010/02/02 10:14 AM >>> Morning I would like to know what is YCLSA's view on the proposed Eskom Tarrif increase Regards, Cde Tshepo Nkwe -- You are subscribed.
