Sowetan *Branches to decide on second term for Malema - Maile* *Kingdom Mabuza, Sowetan, Johannesburg, 16 August 2010*The new ly elected ANCYL chairperson in Gauteng says he will leave it to the branches to decide whether the province will support the re-election of Julius Malema for a second term as party president.
Lebogang Maile, pictured, defeated Thabo Kupa for the provincial chairperson position by 300 votes to 276 during the provincial conference in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, over the weekend.
Some ANCYL insiders believe he will use his win to challenge Malema in the party's leadership next year.
Insiders also see Maile's win over Kupa (who is close to Malema) as a major defeat for Malema's leadership core in the ANCYL.
Kupa, whose previous position as secretary was won by Ayanda Kasa-Ntsobi, is now an additional member of the provincial executive committee.
During an interview with Sowetan Maile would not confirm or deny his availability for the presidency contest
"I cannot say I am available or not for any position until branches and members decide," Maile said.
"At the moment there is no such discussion."He also denied that the ANCYL in Gauteng would under his leadership campaign for the removal of Premier Nomvula Mokonyane.
Since the re-election of Paul Mashatile as chairperson of the province, there has been stubborn rumours that his supporters would help him reclaim the premiership.
The newly elected ANCYL Gauteng treasurer is Masabatha Mutlaneng; the deputy chairperon is Simon Molefe and the deputy secretary is Khensani Kubayi.
