YCLSA *YCLSA condemns shooting at workers on strike* *19 August 2010*The Young Communist League of South Africa (uFasimba) condemns the deplorable behavior of Metro police who resorted to shooting at workers on strike in Johannesburg. This is highly unacceptable and barbaric considering that this is a protected strike
Government should in no instance resort to apartheid style tactics to suppress or intimidate workers. This is in total contravention of our constitution and workers right to take mass action in their struggle for a decent living wage and better working conditions
We hope that the Minister of Public service and Administration, Richard Baloyi's intransigent attitude towards workers, is not that of the entire collective. Such arrogance will not assist in resolving the current Public sector strike. Workers have played a pivotal role in shaping our political landscape and their struggle can never be detached from the overall socio-economic challenges which are confronted by the majority of South Africans.
We urge members of the Metro police and SAPS to refrain from using acts of violence against workers. We hope that all parties involved, particularly government will ensure that decisions taken are inclusive and reflect workers' demands and that this will be done promptly to avoid a catastrophe on service delivery.
